i have a 1958 ford fairlane 292 v8. its a massive project me and my dad have been workin on for a while now, and well we havent gotten this engine to start yet! the engine hasnt ran since about september when i bought it from some guy. its now April 25th.
the firing order is right. gas is getting to it, and there is gas in the gas tank. my dad hasnt checked the points yet, but what would cause an engine to not start up. it just cranks like it wants to start but it never fires up. could the spark plugs be it??
what would cause it to not start? please help...

replace the points, and confirm spark availability. then crank and check timing. if the car has not ran since September you could also have spoiled fuel.
the timing may be out of order.
If the points are needing replaced then your plugs wont fire. the Distributor is a cheap and easy repair in some cases it costs less to change that and the points and the rotor bug than to change the plugs.
either the spark or has it got a carburator…
Check to see if you have spark coming from the ignition coil. Disconnect the wire going to the center of the cap and hold it close to a metal part of the engine and have someone crank it. If there is spark then you know it has to be either the timing or a problem with fuel delivery.
My dad and i are fixing up our old 350 chevy engine and we’re having the same problem, just cant get it to start. If u solve the problem let me know thanks.
Points, points, points.. 1st thing to check in older points ign. system is the points..
Do not sand the points to clean them.. They will never fire again lol.
Check cond, clean em, set the gap on them
