Why is the press and other media reporting the lead-tainted toys the way they are?
For 200 years or more, toys have been painted with brilliant reds, yellows, greens, and blues. Toy wooden wagons then lincoln logs, then Fire engines for johnny, and painted russian dolls and doll houses for lil Suzy. Guess what? All of those paints and most of the metals were full of lead. Probably were up until the 70s or 80s. Toys were only safe for like 10 years. Now china is going through the same lead issues because no one told them any better. When you start buying their cars soon, you will all die beccause they crumple like paper in crash tests. LOL
Anyways, your parents and every ancestor prior played with toys full of lead. This can only mean one of two things.... they are all brain damaged mutants (your whole family) or a bit of lead never hurt anyone.
The press is acting like this is news and unprecedented. Shortsighted ignorant morons.
The question is really:
Why is the press acting like toys have never had lead in them before - don't they put anything into historical context, or merely "hysterical" context?

Not that having lead in toys is a good thing, but to answer your question; the reason there is a media frenzy about it is that the American companies knew about how they were being manufactured but did nothing about it.
Couple that with the jobs that could have been in the US from the manufacturing line (unfortunately the unions make that a virtual impossibility with their crazy wage demands) and with the recent animosity that China is starting to come into it’s own, and voila…you have this.

Instead of a lump of coal, would you prefer a lump of lead in your Christmas stocking? You need to search "lead poisoning" and its affects on the body before you make blanket statements like that.

Because they are afraid of China – they are trying to scare people away from Chinese products because China has a massive economy which threatens US world domination.

back when our parents played with those kinda toys the long term effects of lead were unknown..and there were deaths associated with high levels of lead intake but without the wonderful media we have today they were not widely broadcast and the link to lead was not found until much later….so you would be ok letting your baby much on some lead that you knew was in their toys and take the chance with their health that nothing would happen to them????????…..that is nonsence…and the fact that not only has a foreign county gotton the job of making these toys for american children but is now using products deemed unsafe by the U.S…and your ok with all of this?????….
