Ok, guns don’t use engines, if you want specifics guns usually come under two categories with today’s technology.
Guns that use chemical energy: The VAST majority of guns work on the principle of rapidly expanding gases through a chemical process such as igniting the gunpowder in a shell. Though there are some examples of pneumatic guns, and guns that use binary agents as sources of pressurized gasses, they are not really used today.
Guns that use linear acceleration: A relatively experimental field and to the best of my knowledge there is no weapon using this out of the prototype stage. These guns use magnets to accelerate the projectile to extremely high speeds. Some forms of these are known as Rail Guns, though this is a specific type, so Linear Acceleration Weapons is more of a generic term.

    i don’t think it’s called an engine
    it’s more of a mechanism

Uh, well… the little hammer goes forward, and hits a pin. The pin strikes this small cap thing on the shell of the bullet, igniting the gunpowder inside, and launching the bullet forward.

I think the gun powder is ignited with the concussion, as for the trigger assembly, and all of that… not entirely sure. That’s as much as I know.

Bullets are propelled by expanding gasses caused by the ignition of gunpowder in the bullets.

Guns do not use engines, and are so expensive because they are difficult to make and in high demand. Guns are also expected to last so they are usually made from good quality materials

there is no "engines" in a gun, it is a simple chemical combustion behind a progectile that forces it down a tube

I assume you are not referring to Smith & Wesson handgun.
They are not costly to procure or operate.

    What do you mean ?

Umm there are not Engines in a gun. very basically.
Inside the shell of a bullet it is packed with gun powder. the firing pin hits the back of the bullet igniting the gun powder, the explosion inside the shell forces the actual bullet out of the metal casing. thats there you get your velocity from.
