I bought my above ground pool from my neighbor. My husband filled it up using the fire truck and a hydrant down the road from my house. The water went in green looking. I shocked it and nothing happened so i waited a day and shocked it again. I was told to buy shock from pool place instead of wal mart so i did. i shocked it the 3rd time last night and it is still the same exact hue of green this morning. You can see the bottom and it s a little cloudy but the green shade will not give up WHAT DO i DO NOW i AM AT MY WITS END HERE.

..sigh… Hot tubs and swimming pool water has to be first balanced before you use any type of sanitizer. (Chlorine/bromine/Baquacil etc..are sanitizers.) You need to get your Alkalinity to 80-120ppm (use baking soda to raise alkalinity), next adjust your pH to 7.2-7.8 (prefer 7.4-7.4), next adjust your calcium level to at least 160ppm. (Use calcium chloride), now your water is basically balanced. Now you need to start using the correct amount of shock (Sodium Dichlor for instance, Calcium Hypochlorite, Lithium Hypochlorite, Non-chlorine shock, Baqua Shock (if a Baquacil) pool or Softswim C if a Bioguard softswim pool) By the way these are just a few of the different chlorines and sanatizing systems out there. You must over whelm the algae and kill them before they can multiply. I am sure the whole balance part of this has made your head spin a bit. It’s all very easy to do and must be done. (remember this I am not selling you anything) Your local pool company most likely will. Your just not adding enough shock. IF you kill off the algae and your still cloudy then you might have to "floc" (use a flocculant) to clean your pool even more. Now once you get your pool clean make sure you are using new tablets (Not old) or sticks as your full time sanitizer and then be sure to shock often to keep your free chlorine level around 2. Also test your cyunaric acid level and make sure it’s at least 50ppm. IF you don’t the sun will keep stealing your free chlorine everyday. Good luck and do take a sample to some place for a test.

I love taking hundreds of pools from not being able to see 2 inches into them to clean in just a few days…

Take a sample to a pool shop and get them to test it you will be surprised how much chlorine it needs. Make sure your running the filter long enough as well in summer I run my filter for about 8 hours 2 X 4 hours and in winter 2 X 3 hours.

Sounds like good water generally if you have hydrant water it usually has chlorine in it. Does your pool have alot of sunlight that takes chlorine out of the water. You might think about starting over by draining the pool and scrubbing it. The water should not green looking when it went in. What kind of tank was on the fire truck and how long was the water in it. I filled pools for the local fire department and had a stainless tank another truck i used was steel and before i filled a pool we dumped the load and loaded with clean water. You may try another brand of shock or see a pool supplier. Good luck

Use your water tester to see if you added to much chlorine.

I saw a just filled pool turn lime green after the owner poured in to much. It looked like a giant popsickle.

It took about a week for the chlorine to evaporate before the water cleared up.

Most likely high level of alkalinity.
Try pouring , in one spot, a quart of muriatic acid.
    Naturally, you should test first.
But it will work before your very eyes!
Buy some test strips & test once or twice a week all summer.
    MAKE IT SIMPLE!
