Trying to remove old reflective vinyl on a fire truck. Have tried many ways, to no avail. see more details?
I am working for a sign company, trying to remove old, brittle reflective vinyl. Have tried heat gun, chemical called vinyl off, chemical from 3m thats used to take woodgrain vinyl off, eraser using a good drill, plastic chizzlers, mixed and matched all these, and none is really working. Took 1 hour to get a 6" x 13" letter off. Everything is not really helping to get it off any faster. Any suggestions, please! My thumb is about to fall off! Thank You!

If you have no time constraints maybe try using the chemical but allowing it to stay on for a while. Also it might amaze you that Goo Gone stuff is pretty good. I think the sun and heat is the problem that has made it stick to the surface. Sometimes using oil to soften it may help…leave it on. Getting the oil or chemical behind the plastic is what you need to do. It may need to be left for an hour or two and then come back and see if it has softened. How about bleach…..it is good at removing a lot of things too, just make a soapy mix in a bottle or bucket and swipe it on and leave it then try later on to scrape it off. I have been working with my husband remodeling for years and I have tried a lot of things that don’t always sound like they will work out of desperation. Sometimes it’s time and patience that helps the most. I wish you luck. Wear good tough leather gloves and maybe a good razor scraper too for the smaller stuff. Miss Mary
Let me know if it works.

I bought something recently and it worked great on vinyl decals. It’s a rubber wheel that attaches to your drill, and you just buff off the decal and the residue behind it. Also something that works for removing window tint is ammonia, you cover the tint with a garbage bag and put duct tape over it so it is sealed and can’t leak out leave one side open. then spray ammonia inside the garbage bag, seal up the remaining side and let it sit for an hour or so, preferably in the sun. then remove the bag and it should come right off.
