The fires are burning my house, WHY?

A few years ago, our neighbors took a petition around the neighborhood wanting to ban controlled burning around the hills. Their reasons were, to stop the smell of smoke, to reduce pollution and to stop the ashes from getting into the swimming pools and clogging the filters. Now, after a few years of uncontrolled undergrowth, the hills are all burning and darkening the sky with heavy smoke. The smell of burning cars and houses is terrible. The pool water was used to fill fire trucks with water after the houses burnt or was near burning.

Can we sue the ones who signed the petition to stop controlled burning that led to the destruction of our neighborhood? It seems like they are the ones liable for the destruction. Were a few ashes in the pool worth it?

These are the people that can’t see the forest through the trees… if you know what I mean. Not big picture people.

Bethy… was it really unexpected? How many times has California caught on fire around this time of year? I can remember it time after time since I was a kid. When do you start learning from the past and take proactive measures?

    You can sue anybody.

I hope you win. Because I don’t want my tax dollars (FEMA) being spent on people who live in areas that should be inhabitable because of natural disasters.

No FEMA money for people who live in deserts.
No FEMA money for people living on the beach during storms.

Stupid me, living in an area where there are no natural disasters. When do I get my FEMA money.

Its nature….. the fire was started by the wind knocking a powerline down…i am evacuated also but you cant try to blame everyone it was unexpected and you are not the only one affected. It sucks but it happened.

No one is BEYOND natural disasters. Some manage to bounce back. Others do not. Forget suing. Find your way back. Start all over again. Millions have rebounded.

You can sue anybody you want. But, signing a petition isn’t an actionable act. You won’t win.
