Question about car engine fire????

Eventhough I know a good sort about cars...i've been forgetting to ask, now this happened to me twice,,,1st time i was cranking this 4cyl engine after rebuilding due to cylinder head gasket damage....now after cranking the engine did not run, but a flame cameout through the throtle which i covered with a rag and it died out, 2nd time it happened with a 6cyl engine but this engine was backfiring so I know this was the cause.....but it still beats me on that 1st time, it did not repeat itself, o yeah i've also use starter fluids and when fire comes out i know this is another cause............so any ideas as to when it happens without this 2 causes.?????
I need diesel engine assistance?
Does anyone know the head gasket torque, torque sequenceand head gasket part number for a:
Cummins Diesel
Date MFG.
08/09/1994
CID / L
359 / 5.9
Series: 403
CPL: 1165
Family: 6BTA5.9-F1
It is used in a fire suppression system.
what would happen if the wrong Torque and degrees were used on the expansion bolts of the head during install?
Head gasket blew, resurfaced head, put new gaskets, assembled together with wrong specs for tourque and degree for the bolts. (2002 PT Crusier, 2.4 liter DOHC) Won't start at all and starter almost caught fire. Trouble shooting and double checking all work and possible reasons for problems. I was told that if the bolts were wrong just be over tourqued and that won't keep the engine from starting??
s10 bad head gasket??? hope not?
I4, 5spd, 4x2. Got the truck a few weeks ago and ran fine. Developed a knocking sound which I thought was the throw out bearing going out but that wasnt it. the truck recently died on the side of the highway, we were able to start it again and get it to the gas station, I noticed coolant leaking, there was a lot around the right wheel well. Put some coolant in and got it home, Pulled the radiator out and checked all the hoses, everything turned out fine, seemed like when we died the coolant was leaking from the right bottom side of the radiator( if looking from the driver seat). Checked the oil and the dipstick came back dry, Changed the oil right away and it ran very noice with no smoke, smells or knocks......perfect. This lasted two days until I got in the truck one night after work and it just took a while to get it started, just didnt want to turn over. Kept trying with the throttle open and it fired up. This hard start happens at random but definetely hesitates every time to start. Once running, there is quiet a bit of white smoke from the tail pipe but goes away after 10-15 minutes. I had a car with a complete blown head gasket so it wasnt that much smoke but I would say little more then normal. When driving sometimes it hesitates while accelerating and sometimes it does fine, usually better after its warmed up but still hesitation happens at random.
Some things I found out of place, air filter dirty, moisture around fuel filter, very dirty throttle body and since we replaced the coolant it seems to bubble in the reservoir after shuting off the truck( i didnt "burd the system properly yet)some sort of oily build up on top of the valve cover near the firewall, around the air hose that goes into the valve cover, also there is a vacuum leak, on the driver side near the fender, there is a three way plug, I dont know where the third plug goes, I might just replace it with a straight plug . Where do I start? I will be doing all the work myself but since I recently bought the truck, I havent had the proper time to invest into it. Where do I begin? I really need some professional guidance. BTW, the check engine light is NOT on. Could I have a blown gasket or not?
Also, this is my short list of things to be replaced on my next day off, fuel filter, air filter, water pump, thermostat, drain and refill antifreeze, drain and refill oil, maybe an engine cleaner, thermostat. The temperature gauge keeps going up and down, mostly on the higher side. Oil gauge jumps up and down especially on accelertion

What to do when a car dealership leaves a wrench in the engine, and more?
I bought a used car about a year and a half ago from a giant Subaru dealership. They told me it was a great car with a stellar service record and a single past owner. I inspected the vehicle thoroughly and could find no fault in their statements. Not a week passes and i begin feeling a serious clicking sound coming from the steering/suspension system. I take the car in and they say they cannot duplicate the problem. They ask me to show it to one of their mechanics and the minute the tech gets in my car he says in a rather aggravated tone "this is the one with the bad center dif". I reply that I had not been told that and he storms into the office to confront the writers who deal with customers. They put the car back in the shop and soon find the center dif to be bad (a very expensive and VERY rare repair on a subaru) and in addition recommend the rear brakes resurfaced, and the engine computer replaced. At first they claim I am responsible (keep in mind i bought this car less then a week before) and that i would need to pay a service bill of nearly ,000 - almost 2/3 the cost of the car. Finally they agree to pay and all is well.
A little bit later, the car begin dying on startup and idling very badly. They recommended the replacement of the O2 censor and a reflash of the engine computer (again).
soon after that, i went in for a brake job (again) and they said i had two major leaks in the head gasket and that they could replace the timing belt at the same time to save labor costs. I said go ahead.
so now were are caught up to the present.
I was driving up a small hill last saturday when i heard a whirring sound and then a horrible snapping sound. the accelerator stopped responding and the car died. I had the car towed to a AAA service center where they proceeded to find a damaged tensioner assembly, all three pulleys destroyed and the timing belt had jumped and bent multiple teeth. My original subaru dealership said they would cover some of the repairs since it was their fault for doing a bad timing belt repair job, but they would cover the entire thing.
the next day i get a call from the AAA guys who said they had completed the repairs, started the car and found two cylinders misfiring, then not firing at all. they took another look and found a broken piece of a wrench in the motor somewhere (a tool they did not use in the timing belt repair).
As of now, AAA is relaying their findings to my subaru dealership and they are in meetings to figure out what to do.
So to recap.
I bought a used car and within a year and a half have had: the center dif need replacement, the brakes need resurfacing countless times, the engine computer replaced twice and reflashed 3 times. the o2 censor replaced, a major head gasket job, now two timing belt replacements and now an enormous job replacing valves, and a few other engine pieces.
bottom line is i don't trust this car anymore and feel that this dealership has screwed me time and time again. They (stupidly) left a tool in my engine which caused major destruction, and have generally been confused, had bad communication and represented their brand VERY poorly.
My question is: is there a lawsuit here? if they don't pay up can i bring charges against them for this? what are my rights regarding this situation?
I am just so fed up with all of this that I want to do whatever is in my power as a citizen of this country to make this corporation feel the pain they have caused me (not to mention the rediculous amount of money i have put into this car)
thank you
i just wanted to clarify that i did not pay the ,000 bill at the beginning. they agreed to cover it.
lexus es300 cranks won’t fire, weak spark, intermittent injector pulse?
I've been having a hell of a time with this es300. I got it in the beginning of march 2009, and since then have had to have the water pump and timing belt and gasket replaced, and then recently, I ran out of gas on the highway and the fuel pump went.
The day the fuel pump before i ran out of gas i had a situation with the car just starting in general. I let it sit for a few minutes then it started. Later I ran out of gas, someone came and hooked me up, it started and I went home. Then a few days later I went out to try to go somewhere and the car just wouldnt start.
I went to a junkyard and pulled a fuel pump, bought a new fuel filter and put all that in. I know the pump works because I can hear it when i put the car into the on position.
Basically, the car cranks, but will not fire at this point. We checked the fuel pressure, its great, then we checked the spark plugs, that doesnt appear to be the problem either. The injector pulse was intermittent, and the spark we got from the plugs are weak.
We are basically at a loss trying to figure out what next to check. We were thinking crankshaft position sensor or the ecm could be bad. We tried to manually get the check engine codes (however at no point before it died did a check engine light come on) and it didnt even blink or anything.
Does ANYONE know what we can do before we go out buying random parts to replace and what possible diagnostics we could run? Or is there something we aren't thinking of?
Note, I also put a new battery in it about a week or two ago. Any advice would grant you title as hero of the day.
all the wiring looks fine, nothings burnt or in bad shape. Whats really raising the red flag is there's no check engine code when we tried to retrieve it. We followed the instructions to jump the terminals in the diagnostic block in the engine compartment but it showed nothing. it didnt even blink and from what we read in the manual it should blink twice a second if there are no engine codes.
How can i test to know whether its cam crank or ecm?
we actually verified the belt isn't broken but havent look at time.
our guess was also possibly the computer but getting to it is a real problem without tearing stuff up a little bit. this car is put together all retarded-like.
My truck leaks antifreeze internally, and i need to find which cylinder it’s leaking into. How can I find out?
My truck is a 1988 chevy silverado, great truck, has over 200k miles on it, so she's kinda gettin tired. The engine needs rebuilt or replaced no doubt, but I'm just gunna keep drivin it till she drops. The thing is, it leaks antifreeze very badly internally, and I'm 95% sure it's a head gasket or cracked block; my question is how do I find the cylinder that the antifreeze is leaking into? I bought some Bars Leaks Sealer, I have to drain the coolant and mix this stuff with water and run it thru the system, and do this continuously for a while, but they suggest finding the cylinder that it's leaking in, and disconnect the sparkplug, so that cylinder won't fire, so it will let the leak sealer work in the crack better, but that's the problem, how do I find which cylinder it's leaking into? Any input is greatly appreciated!!Thanks!!
1991 Toyota 4Runner Engine Mis-Fire?
I just bought a truck and I didnt notice at the time it was mis-firing when in idle/park. Anyway, I doubt its going to pass emissions due to this problem. There is some smoke coming out of the exhaust. I changed the oil to see if it had a mix of coolent in it, but no. IT was black. It doesnt seem to overheat either. I checked and it was pretty full of coolent, so it doesnt look like its leaking. Maybe a little. With all that it doesnt appear to be a Head Gasket.
I changed the spark plug wires also, but no change. I guess I could change the spark plugs too. What else can cause misfires like this??
I was told it could be a bad valve. I highly doubt it sense this is a newer motor/rebuilt. Not sure what one. Anyway it only has less than 20k on this motor. So I dont think its a bad valve. Any idea??? Please Help.
