I have an old riding lawn mower that has not been used for almost one year. Got it started but the engine was making some kind of gun fire noises every few minutes. Wondering what is happening here.

ok itll be fine for like 10 minutes
then itll say check gages
so i do its overheating
a few minutes later it goes back to normal and itll keep doing it randomly
i turn on the heat, and its ice cold air when it says thats its overheating
i bought this truck last week for about 4 grand 77k [...]
