How can people like living in a condo or apartment?
Browse the site to learn more about how to buy a used truck, trucks sell, used trucks for sale, antique fire trucks and more
I live in an apartment and really hate it. I am a night owl and usually do things late at night, and I am a considerate person so I make sure to be as quiet as possible so I will not disturb my neighbors. The things that bother me:
1. No parking available
2. Strange people standing outside in your path to your door
3. Hearing other people late at night
4. Heavy smokers who may accidentally set fire to the whole building
5. Not being able to run on the treadmill/workout late at night
I would love to buy a house with a garage since it sucks having my nice car being abused by the harsh weather. My dad rented a house with a garage when I was 16 - 18 and it was great having my show truck sparkling clean in the garage when there were snow storms outside.
I would rent a home but I remember we got kicked out of the house since the owner wanted to sell the house instead of renting it, so that insecurity sucks so I rather buy. However with today's economy and restrictions that may be tough since it was hard for me to get a new car recently.
Motorcycles: Harley Davidson Question, 1990 Sportster 1200?
Ok, I wrote an introduction to this quesiton that was longer than some books, so I just started over because otherwise I'd never get any answers 'cause the intro was longer than the freaking question itself. I'll try to keep it "to the point", but I have always had trouble with that. I ramble. I'm a rambler and I rant. I'm a ranter, putting in millions of details that have nothing to due with the topic. OK - my dad buys his second motorcycle as he is wanting to get into riding. I have been riding every year weather permitting for 13 year and I know my way around a bike pretty good. I have never owned a harley davidson, only Yamaha's and kawasaki's. The first bike my dad bought was a Kawasaki. He's been taking riding lessons from me for free, and he also signed up for a course at our local community college that is taught by guys who've been riding for centuries, and they'll teach him things that even I don't know. So one day we are driving and there's a sparkling clean sportster (1200 XLH) sitting on the side of the road ("for sale sign clearly visible"). I call the number and offer the guy 00 as it's a 1990 and has 15,000 miles on it, although the bike is FLAWLESS and loaded with aftermarket shiny things, although all moving parts are stock. He accepts. I tell him that it's actually my dad who is interested and I'll have him call back later. He does, and sets up a test ride (to be performed by me) the next day. We go, I ride (I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a helmet), but I didn't on this test ride because I had to be able to hear EVERYTHING IN THE ENGINE, ETC. So I ride for about 10 minutes and the bike is in such incredible condition I just can't believe it. I report back and dad agrees to buy it on the spot. The next day he pays the guy and get's the temp tag and insures it. Tonight I went down and picked it up. While we were in the guys large and spotless garage, fully equipped with about 10 motorcycles, 3 cars, and 4 toolbenches, I didn't see the expected accompanyment of tool kits. So I figure he outsources his maintainence. Ok. I turn the fuel switch to "on" from "off", and all of a sudden the bike is literally purging the entire tank of gas out of what appears to be a 1/4 inch rubber hose that someone had threaded between those iconic thin metal bars that run vertically from the crankcase up each side of the cylinders. The hose STARTS at the bottom of the air filter, although I don't thing it has anything to do with it and runs up direcly to the "OFF/ON/RESERVE" switch. So I quickly switch it off, and it stops leaking. The seller is horrified because he's already been paid and we haven't even taken possession yet, 2. The bike didn't do this when I rode it the day before, and 3. his dog bit my dad in the ass when he went over to pay him (and my dad is a lawyer, "bad combination of events"). So we spend 40 minutes trying to figure out first of all what the hell that hose is anyway.... Why is it now leaking fuel copiously, and was it originally connected to something else? did it become disconnected? Next I decide "ok, let's take it just outside of the garage, fire it up with the switch on "off", then turn it "on", which we did, and it still pissed fuel all over the ground. By this time I'd removed it from it's previous position up against the base of the outside of the lower part of the block (too hot for rubber hose, obviously), and I'd zip-tied it so it wouldn't touch the exhaust either. Ok, WTF!!!!???? So, in a last ditch attempt to just GET IT HOME, I decided to clamp it off. Between the 2 of us we decided to use a paper clamp (not clip, CLAMP), those black things with the little silver handles to open and close them that can be used to pinch other people for fun at the office. We also screwed a screw of slightly larger diameter than the inside of the hose into the end of it, and...... drumroll... IT STILL LEAKED, SOMEHOW, but to a lesser degree. He followed me home and the performance of the bike was severely compromised. I had to keep it revved at stop signs and it felt like it was missing on one of the cylinders occasionally. SO: WHAT IS THIS HOSE, WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE, AND WHAT'S IT SUPPOSED TO DO? IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE HOOKED TO SOMETHING? IF SO, WHAT? PLEASE. I WILL RECANT ALL MY YEARS OF RIDING JAP BIKES IF SOMEONE WILL PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. Otherwise, I'm going to have to pay someone to do it and they might die of laughter from how stupid I am that I couldn't figure it out on my own. This bike is beautiful and I'm really hoping that it doesn't reinforce the rumor that Harley's are hanger queens (which is the only reason I hadn't bought one myself prior to this bike). I know that there is someone out there who can answer this in the blink of an eye. Also the oil/filter and plugs haven't been changed in friggin' trillions of years so I'm going to do that as soon as I can get the right plugs for it. I bought a case of 4 cycle bike oil about 3 years ago and I still haven't
used it all, so this oil change should finish it off. That maintainence I can do myself, but if I end up having to take the bike to my mechanic to have this hose thing figured out, I'll just have them change the plugs/oil/filter. Well, that about does it. If I remember anything else I'll post an update. Thank you all in advance for your help. I'm sorry I'm such a dumb-ass but this is my first Harley and I'm still basically a Harley virgin so I haven't found the g-spot on them yet. Thx, john in Iowa

Her is one for the "old school" Mechanics out there. 65 Mustang?
I was 15 years old and saved up some money to buy a 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe, the Coupe's with the 200 Six cylinders were a dime a dozen back in 1986. The engine did not need to be overhauled but I did anyway. I was going to tech school for automobile mechanics, and my Dad had offered to pay for all the parts. I did all the head work myself, got all new parts, new paint job for the motor, the works. To make a long story short every little thing was replaced on the engine. Well about two weeks into all my glory of succesfully rebuilding a Ford 200 six cylinder I was on my way home with a great big head of accualy rebuilding something and it working, when all hell broke loose. She was poping through the carb, she was back firing through the tail pipe. It was so imbarising, so I pulled over let the car sit for about 5 minuets. I then turn the key and she begain to run normal. About ten more minuets of driving it all started agian. What was it? Here is a clue the part cost about .50
Why does Dad's '96 Nissan truck have no fire?
I'm posting this question for my Dad. He's got a 1996 Nissan Hardbody he uses to travel back/forth to work. It recently died on him and was towed back home. The truck has no fire. He has ordered a new distributor but it was no help, still no fire. Couple of things - he's getting only about 9v @ distributor - Is this normal? 2nd thing - the truck is a standard transmission, but he's noticed a "shift lock" fuse that is burnt and fries as soon a new fuse is put in - What could be causing this? Is this why we have no fire? Note: the truck has the 2.4L engine put in later model 96's.
EDIT It's definitely a stick. Shift lock may have somethng to do with the switch involved with pushing the clutch all the way in to crank. Why would it turn over if that were the cause??
Which culture does this to woman?
I once saw a movie of a wedding, in which the bride was knocked off her horse just before the wedding.
It's meant to instill some humility, so that her head does not get too big...
What happens to a woman who becomes too arrogant...I have seen woman who's family picture(who actually have a husband, children) amounts to a picture of herself above the fire-place...or the relentless pursuit of BS material goods, or pursuit of (such as leasing a luxury car one could not normally afford) "status"...
or driving a 6000lb SUV/Truck...unable to look over the steering wheel...do woman also buy into THAT ruse?
I never saw my Dad or any other man who came home after making a very good buck, acting arrogant, with a bad attitude.
With all the depression, divorces, broken homes, shattered lives, single mothers, fatherless children...did we REALLY go in the right direction in the pursuit for all things to be "equal"?
Be careful what you wish for...
What is the meaning of my dream?
Some background. I bought a horse trailer from my parents. In that I have all my sound gear in it, I call it the "Music Box".
I dreamt that I was in my grandma's house (she passed on Thanksgiving Day last year). I was looking out the dining room window at the music box that was outback. Suddanly a fire broke out and the front of the trailer was burned. It seemed to take forever for the fire dept to show up. Somehow my Dad was able to pull it out to the side yard with his truck. With the fire, part of the floor had burned away and I had lost my main speakers. Every thing else had smoke and water damage. The insurance company took care of things. I told them how I wanted it painted, they told me they could only make it in pre-fire condition.
I want it to match my truck. Right now, the red paint is peeling over the blue base paint and doesn't look real pretty. I woke up at 2:30 thinking did this realy happen?
What about this one i have dug up from my archives A Letter From Camp?
Dear Mom & Dad,
Our Scoutmaster told us to write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and are worried. We are okay. Only one of our tents and 2 sleeping bags got washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Chad when it happened.
Oh yes, please call Chad's mother and tell her he is okay. He can't write because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search and rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found Chad in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning.
Scoutmaster Don got mad at Chad for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Chad said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him.
Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas will blow up? The wet wood didn't burn, but one of the tents did and also some of our clothes. David is going to look weird until his hair grows back.
We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Don gets the car fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked okay when we left. Scoutmaster Don said that with a car that old you have to expect something to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance.
We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the fender. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in a car. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrol man stopped and talked to us.
Scoutmaster Don is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Terry how to drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks.
This morning all of the guys were diving off the rocks and swimming out in the lake. Scoutmaster Don wouldn't let me because I can't swim, and Chad was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see some of the trees under the water from the flood.
Scoutmaster Don isn't crabby like some scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about the life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we are trying not to cause him any trouble.
Guess what? We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Dave dived into the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works.
Wade and I threw up, but Scoutmaster Don said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken. He said they got sick that way with food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and became our scoutmaster.
He said he sure figured out how to get things done better while he was doing his time. By the way, what is a pedal-file?
I have to go now. We are going to town to mail our letters and buy some more beer. Don't worry about anything, we are fine.
Love, Timothy
i now it's a bit long ?
Dear Mom & Dad,
Our Scoutmaster told us to write to our parents in case you saw the flood on TV and are worried. We are okay. Only one of our tents and two sleeping bags got washed away.
Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all up on the mountain looking for Adam when it happened. Oh yes, please call Adam's mother & tell her he is okay. He can't write 'cause of the cast.
I got to ride in one of the search and rescue jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found Adam in the dark if it hadn't been for the lightning. Scoutmaster Keith got mad at Adam for going on a hike alone without telling anyone. Adam said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him.
Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas will blow up? The wet wood didn't burn, but one of the tents did and also some of our clothes. Matthew is going to look weird until his hair grows back.
We will be home on Saturday if Scoutmaster Keith gets the bus fixed. It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked okay when we left. Scoutmaster Keith said that with a bus that old you have to expect some thing to break down; that's probably why he can't get insurance. We think it's a neat bus.
He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the fenders. It gets pretty hot with 45 people in a bus. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrol man stopped and talked to us.
Scoutmaster Keith is a neat guy. Don't worry, he's a good driver. In fact, he is teaching Jesse how to drive on the mountain roads where there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up there are logging trucks.

Scoutmaster Keith isn't crabby like some Scoutmasters. He didn't even get mad about us not wearing life jackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the bus so we are trying not to cause him any trouble.
Guess what?
We have all passed our first aid merit badges. When Andrew dived into the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a tourniquet works. christmas gift for my nieces and nephews?
so i was roaming around walmart today and cruising through the toy section to see if there was anything there that i had to had for one of my nieces or nephews and i ran across a rocket (you know about a foot and a half tall, takes a small fire cracker like engine and shoots up into the air much to the amusment of children) and i thought cool! i'll get that for my nephew, but i called his mom first to ask if it was alright for me to get it for him, he's 9. she was cool, and said i should get one for each of her kids, so they could do it together. cool, easy buy for two of them. then i was talking to my brother and i told him about the rockets i was getting for our sisters kids, and he said "hey! my daughter did that in school last year and she'd really like it, you should get her one too" and now i'm buying.... three rockets.. then i have one more nephew, he's 6.. i am beginning to wonder, if i get rockets for all the other kids, and not one for him, will he feel left out?
we all get together as a family and exchange gifts.. i don't want him to feel left out, but i donno about buying a rocket for a 6 year old, the others are 9 10 and 12 so a goodly amount older.. my husband says to get the younger one a rocket too, and he'll just have to have his dad do it with him.. i donno.. what do YOU think??

Car blew up today sooo…………?
Ok lets start from the jump. My husband thinks that his father is GOD himself. Now I like the man but he just thinks he know EVERYTHING and no body can tell him different. Like he thinks he would be less of a man if he did not know somthing. Now OK you get that part NOW..... Things have gone wrong with our car b4 and his father "fixed it" and of course a day or so later went wrong again (example the back windoe is messed up and FIL "fixed it" Well it is still broken) Any who The alternator blew wile my husband was near his parents house last week. I begged and pleadded to my husband to just bring it to the shop but of course jesus listens to his father only and GOD OBVIOULY could fix it no problem. OF COURSE HE KNEW HOW TO FIX IT.... (I think you get the point) so he did. Sence then the car would smell funny when you started it. Now today I went to subway and came out and there is my car (w/ my kids laundry in it of course) ON FIRE!!!!! Well needless to say the FRIGGIN thing blew up in front of my eyes. (I did run back to it to get my car seats I know it sounds nuts but im broke and I would be damned if I had no car seats for my babies) Gone now. The 1st thing the fire fighter, cops, and tow truck guy asked was "was there any work done to it lately because it started GUESS WHERE?????? I BET YOU COULD GUESS.......NOW GOD almighty is on the phone convincing my husband to buy a car that costs ,000 and of course what is wrong with it...."He will fix it"" YAHHHHHHHHHH RIGHT BUDDY KISS MY BIG FAT A$$. How the hell can I get the FIL to accept the fact that he does not know how to fix cars?????? How can I convince my husband his fathers word is not all holy and bound???? I am so thankful that my children were not with me when this happened. The thing is my husband is EXTREAMLY sensitive if I talk about his family and if I dare say anything I will get shunned and yelled and screamed at then ignored for god knows how long. His dad will never admite he was wrong and worse of all my husband called my g/f man (WILE I WAS THERE NOT KNOWING IF I WAS OK...) saying that it must have been my fault and I will not be able to drive his cars EVER again. Ok yah I am the one who made the car burst into flames randomely and I am the one whom wont admite that I cant do somthing and put peoples lives at risk. UHHGGG (sorry I'm ranting but come on I think I get a pass today) Thanks
How do you feel about this??? Please read. Family Drama. Its long but PLEASE read!!?
My cousin, who is like a brother to me is 22 years old. Him and his gf have been together since high school. She got pregnant and had his baby last July. They moved out of my cousins house and into her parents house. My cousin has always worked with his dad. His dad has his own construction company.
His baby mama, bc thats what she is, doesnt work. Neither does her dad, nor her little brother who got fired for smoking weed at work. (hes a looser and 16)
While they live at her parents, only my cousin and her mom work. His baby mama goes to school and so does my cousin.
Technical schools
He has a BMW that his dad makes payments for every month. His gf had a scion but passed it on to her brother. Which they are financing as well.
My cousin just bought a truck and passed his bmw to his gf and is paying off the new truck.
Well just a month ago they found out his baby mama was pregnant again!
So now they decided they wanted to get married! idk why bc my cousins talks about his girl like he doesnt love her and he is also depressed.
Did i mention, he bought her a 5000 dollar engagement ring a few weeks ago.
I know this all their business and what not but he is like a big brother too me and i feel like this b!tch is making him this way. I feel he feels obligated bc of the babies. I hate her! But seriously people what do you think, AND they are getting married tomorrow.
But not for love, they want to fix things. I think he is tired of calling her his baby mama. My family thinks the same way.
Dont you think he needs to save money instead of buying her a ring that expensive?
She also cheated on him a few years ago, my family saw her twice and he never believed them!
He also goes and tells her everything so we cant tell him NOTHING!
Opinions thanks.
and his dad pays the car she is driving...
Has God worked a miracle in your life?
He's worked many miracles in mine, but the biggest one I can remember is when I was 16 and he spoke to me. I was walking down the hall at school and all he said was "hurry". It sounded like a boom of thunder, it was so loud - but nobody else heard it, judging by the looks on their faces. Still, I didn't question it and picked up my pace. About 3 seconds later a gunman walked in and started shooting. If I hadn't picked up my pace, I would have been right in front of the door he walked through! As it was, I had time to run up the stairs nearby. He did fire at me once, but the bullet narrowly missed my head.
There are many other miracles I can think of, but the most recent one that affects me happened to my brother-in-law Saturday night. He lives in Central America and he bought a truck that had no airbag, but he installed one. Saturday night he got in an accident and completely totalled the truck. No one but him was injured, he broke several ribs, but everyone who saw the truck says there's no way he should be alive. The only reason he is is because the airbag deployed. But when his dad told him that, he told his dad "that's not possible" because he hadn't hooked the airbag up yet! He needed a bunch of passwords and stuff and he hadn't gotten to it yet, so the airbag deployed when it wasn't even connected to anything!
I'm just so blown away by how God works in our lives every day, and I was wondering if you guys have any stories you can share about miracles that God has worked in your life. Thank you and God bless!!
Tylertxan -
Actually, airbags being re-installed into vehicles in which they have already deployed happens all the time in third world countries. I know because I am from there also.
The story of the shooting occurred 8 days after the Columbine shooting, in Taber, Alberta, Canada. You can read more about it at this link:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1107990510-25025,00.html
Since I was not hit, I was only interviewed by the police and did not make it onto any news story - partly because I avoided the media, which the American news crew there thought was (and I quote) "backward". There is, however, a video for which I did an interview that people who didn't know about the shooting saw me in and found out that way that I had been there. The video was made for educational purposes, which is why I consented to an interview, and is mainly shown to high school groups.
Any other questions I can help with?
what would you do if you came home and your classic truck or car was gone?
my ex wife let her friend use he truck cuz he needed to move something! first of all the title of the truck was in my name and she knew it, 2nd she knew nobody was to drive it or use it! not even her! she has never drove it, 3rd i have had this truck for 36 years, my dad bought this truck when i was a week old and i have had it ever since
so she knew, and her friend got her to tell him where the keys where! i let her know where the keys are just in case the house catches fire she or the fire dept can move it before it burns!
so i come home and see no truck, i ask her where the truck, she says her friend is using it and it will be back in just a few! not good enough i tell her! so i pick up the phone can call the police and report it stolen and give the address where they were going with my truck! a few min later the cops called and asked if i wanted to press charges and i said yes! and my truck came back to my house on a tow truck!
what would have you done? remember this truck has been in my family for over 30 years and its worth about 25,000 easy!
Would my idea of a fire powered boat work?
Recently my girlfriend's dad asked me if it was possible to make a fire powered boat. What he suggested was that a fire be made on a (thick) plank of balsa wood. The fire would be then incased around a chimney (with an air opening obviously).
The chimney's hole would then not be directed upwards but rather sidewards.
I am aware that it is fire on wood, but if the surface is properly treated there would be little issue of burning damage. I am more concerned about whether is is possible to create thrust using just the sidewards re-directed updraft from a fire and not using any steam engine etc whatsoever.
Does anyone also have any other simple ideas on how to make a fire powered boat? ie: not a steam engine, rocket motor, combustion engine, etc.
Thanks

How to converting 120VAC to 12VDC to use an old firetruck siren?
My dad was just getting rid of an old 1970 fire truck and I took the old sounding wind-up siren off of it. I was wondering if there was any way to power it using household 120V AC.
Thanks.
why wont my engine start? is it the spark plugs, distributor?
i have a 1958 ford fairlane 292 v8. its a massive project me and my dad have been workin on for a while now, and well we havent gotten this engine to start yet! the engine hasnt ran since about september when i bought it from some guy. its now April 25th.
the firing order is right. gas is getting to it, and there is gas in the gas tank. my dad hasnt checked the points yet, but what would cause an engine to not start up. it just cranks like it wants to start but it never fires up. could the spark plugs be it??
what would cause it to not start? please help...
