so i came home from a very hectic day at work and as i was backing up into a small space i have to park in. (i live in a trailor park, and we don't have a driveway so park management makes us park acrossed from our house infront of our neighbors yard) as i was backing up i wasn't paying much attention, i was trying to avoid hitting the motorcycle i park next to, i accidently hit the neighbors fence. i did no damage to my truck but i did crack part of one of the little space things and break the the tip off of one. it's not alot of damage and i offered to buy and replace the whole panel for it, about max for the panel even though i only ruined 1/12 of the panel. the couple who owns the fence however wants me to purchase and put up a whole new fence, about 00 worth of fencing around their trailor. i want to know if i'm obligated to do the whole fence or just what i damaged, since what i damaged isn't even really noticeable it's so small.

also i don't know if this has anything to do with it, but we aren't supposed to have fences in the park and where hers is there shouldn't be anything anyways because of fire saftey laws. and everyone pulls in where we park because it's directly next to the mailboxes and other cars have hit the fence but they want me to pay for her whole fence and a brand new one.

Eventhough I know a good sort about cars...i've been forgetting to ask, now this happened to me twice,,,1st time i was cranking this 4cyl engine after rebuilding due to cylinder head gasket damage....now after cranking the engine did not run, but a flame cameout through the throtle which i covered with a rag and it died out, 2nd time it happened with a 6cyl engine but this engine was backfiring so I know this was the cause.....but it still beats me on that 1st time, it did not repeat itself, o yeah i've also use starter fluids and when fire comes out i know this is another cause............so any ideas as to when it happens without this 2 causes.?????

Ok, I wrote an introduction to this quesiton that was longer than some books, so I just started over because otherwise I'd never get any answers 'cause the intro was longer than the freaking question itself. I'll try to keep it "to the point", but I have always had trouble with that. I ramble. I'm a rambler and I rant. I'm a ranter, putting in millions of details that have nothing to due with the topic. OK - my dad buys his second motorcycle as he is wanting to get into riding. I have been riding every year weather permitting for 13 year and I know my way around a bike pretty good. I have never owned a harley davidson, only Yamaha's and kawasaki's. The first bike my dad bought was a Kawasaki. He's been taking riding lessons from me for free, and he also signed up for a course at our local community college that is taught by guys who've been riding for centuries, and they'll teach him things that even I don't know. So one day we are driving and there's a sparkling clean sportster (1200 XLH) sitting on the side of the road ("for sale sign clearly visible"). I call the number and offer the guy 00 as it's a 1990 and has 15,000 miles on it, although the bike is FLAWLESS and loaded with aftermarket shiny things, although all moving parts are stock. He accepts. I tell him that it's actually my dad who is interested and I'll have him call back later. He does, and sets up a test ride (to be performed by me) the next day. We go, I ride (I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a helmet), but I didn't on this test ride because I had to be able to hear EVERYTHING IN THE ENGINE, ETC. So I ride for about 10 minutes and the bike is in such incredible condition I just can't believe it. I report back and dad agrees to buy it on the spot. The next day he pays the guy and get's the temp tag and insures it. Tonight I went down and picked it up. While we were in the guys large and spotless garage, fully equipped with about 10 motorcycles, 3 cars, and 4 toolbenches, I didn't see the expected accompanyment of tool kits. So I figure he outsources his maintainence. Ok. I turn the fuel switch to "on" from "off", and all of a sudden the bike is literally purging the entire tank of gas out of what appears to be a 1/4 inch rubber hose that someone had threaded between those iconic thin metal bars that run vertically from the crankcase up each side of the cylinders. The hose STARTS at the bottom of the air filter, although I don't thing it has anything to do with it and runs up direcly to the "OFF/ON/RESERVE" switch. So I quickly switch it off, and it stops leaking. The seller is horrified because he's already been paid and we haven't even taken possession yet, 2. The bike didn't do this when I rode it the day before, and 3. his dog bit my dad in the ass when he went over to pay him (and my dad is a lawyer, "bad combination of events"). So we spend 40 minutes trying to figure out first of all what the hell that hose is anyway.... Why is it now leaking fuel copiously, and was it originally connected to something else? did it become disconnected? Next I decide "ok, let's take it just outside of the garage, fire it up with the switch on "off", then turn it "on", which we did, and it still pissed fuel all over the ground. By this time I'd removed it from it's previous position up against the base of the outside of the lower part of the block (too hot for rubber hose, obviously), and I'd zip-tied it so it wouldn't touch the exhaust either. Ok, WTF!!!!???? So, in a last ditch attempt to just GET IT HOME, I decided to clamp it off. Between the 2 of us we decided to use a paper clamp (not clip, CLAMP), those black things with the little silver handles to open and close them that can be used to pinch other people for fun at the office. We also screwed a screw of slightly larger diameter than the inside of the hose into the end of it, and...... drumroll... IT STILL LEAKED, SOMEHOW, but to a lesser degree. He followed me home and the performance of the bike was severely compromised. I had to keep it revved at stop signs and it felt like it was missing on one of the cylinders occasionally. SO: WHAT IS THIS HOSE, WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE, AND WHAT'S IT SUPPOSED TO DO? IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE HOOKED TO SOMETHING? IF SO, WHAT? PLEASE. I WILL RECANT ALL MY YEARS OF RIDING JAP BIKES IF SOMEONE WILL PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. Otherwise, I'm going to have to pay someone to do it and they might die of laughter from how stupid I am that I couldn't figure it out on my own. This bike is beautiful and I'm really hoping that it doesn't reinforce the rumor that Harley's are hanger queens (which is the only reason I hadn't bought one myself prior to this bike). I know that there is someone out there who can answer this in the blink of an eye. Also the oil/filter and plugs haven't been changed in friggin' trillions of years so I'm going to do that as soon as I can get the right plugs for it. I bought a case of 4 cycle bike oil about 3 years ago and I still haven't
used it all, so this oil change should finish it off. That maintainence I can do myself, but if I end up having to take the bike to my mechanic to have this hose thing figured out, I'll just have them change the plugs/oil/filter. Well, that about does it. If I remember anything else I'll post an update. Thank you all in advance for your help. Ok im doing a proj. on fire trucks and if they use alot of diesel and I was wondering if they use more diesel with a dirty air filter? I dont know much bout cars

The dream was strange, it started out with me and my best friend talking about a video game. Next, we appear In some small town. Based off the things I saw around the town, it was most likely some ware near the Tahoe area in California or Nevada. We are by a huge, really expensive looking house. (in this town, everyone had expensive clothes, cars, and really big houses) It turns out that the house belongs to this kid who is in my PE class. After I meet his family, another kid from the same class appears there. Suddenly I hear a plane flying overhead and t is making a weird noise. We watch it and I realize that it is stalling and it is going to crash. I tell them that it is crashing, and they say "No its not, but I have never seen one fly over town so close to the ground, the nearest airport is in another city." Then the plane stalls in mid air and falls to the ground and explodes. We watch the smoke from it and then I hear another plane making the same noise. I look up and it looks like it is going to crash onto the house by us. I tell everyone that it is going to fall on us and they say that its going to crash some ware else. I say "Its not going to fall any ware near us, its going to fall right on us." Then we run away and as we run I am looking up and the plane is falling. It doesn't fall on the house though, but it falls onto another house just a door away. We keep running and everyone else in the street is running around too. My friend yells "Look, another one!" And I randomly pull out my video camera and I film it. The plane's engines are on fire and it flyes right over us and crashes some ware behind some houses. We keep running and one of the people from my class says that it must be a terrorist attack. We run to a shopping mall that we find and take cover in there. We could hear explosions outside and other people came to hide in the mall too. After a few minutes of being there, we stopped hearing explosions and went outside. As we were going outside, a TV in the mall had a news report about planes crashing all over the wrold. The news report also said that all airports are closed due to national security. We walk out of the mall and my friend tells me that we have to go back home to Reno to check if our families are ok. (The phones stopped working too) Its a small town with no airport or train station so the only way we can get home is to take a bus. We go to buy a ticket and the lady at the booth says that all the busses have been closed too due to a possible terrorist attack. Me and my friend think that if it was a terrorist attack the planes would be flying into buildings and stuff, and not just crashing. The dream ends like right after I say that.

What does this mean?
Oh yeah, and all of the planes were 747s. Theye were blue with grey wings. They looked alot like KLM airliners.

What should my first car be??? I'm turning 15 in May and my parents are letting me pick what i want my first car to be and they're cool with the ones i have listed below...I just dont know what to pick:)) Help!!!

I want something that will hold at least four people, and I want my friends to be totally jealous!!! Lol

well they were supposed to buy me a car when i turned 13 cuz...well idk i just really wanted one but then when it came time to do it i got one and my dad totalled it at a rough truck contest and i found a BMW tht i really want so they're probably gonna get it for me if thts what i want:)

oh and i come from a racing family and i've been driving around my farm since i was 12 so i can drive...im not like most teenage drivers...i drive an Ford Expedition out to the fire pit all the time so i could handle the trucks

My car got flooded and when i drove it there was blue smoke coming underneath the hood. So there was a fire. I got scared and left my car on the street and went for help. Apparently after i left someone called the firetruck, they popped open my hood and put out the fire. As a result the infront of the car was totally deformed. I towed it to a mechanic. He told me a lot of stuff were burned under the hood, but the engine and transmission are still good. He said including everything, like buying new parts and his labor, it'd cost 00 to repair and it's not guaranteed it's not gonna have any problems anymore. He offered i can sell the car to him for 0 b/c he does junkyard work too. Is it a rip-off? I guess i can sell the parts separately but i really dont know anything about cars and dont have the time to deal with it. So should i take the offer?

How much are engine and transmission worth?

Bare with me -not used to doing this stuff myself! SO..I bought a Chilton book to help. (don't laugh!) : ) OK checked the oil -I am cool. Need to fill the "coolant tank" however. My ? is...the book says to add equal amounts of "ethylene-glycol anti-freeze" and "distilled water" -Now I have seen many many people just filling up their cars/trucks with regular old water!!
Do I really need to do this? I am not exposed to any "severe" temps -sometimes a little warm in the summer, but I live on the west coast -at the coast.
Also....I finally found where to stick in a new air filter, thinking that may be a good idea, because we have had over a month of raining ash here from a large fire. Pulled out the old one, and it really didn't look so bad. I was shocked, because the whole engine compartment is filled with ash! Replace, or no?
Should I steam clean the engine now that it seems the fire has moved in a new direction?

I did find the pre-mixed coolant at the parts store. Think I am going to forget the steam clean -sounds like I could really screw something up there!
Besides, as a neighbor pointed out, the stuff (ash) is still all over the streets etc. Will put that one on hold. But will change the air filter!

Their reasons were, to stop the smell of smoke, to reduce pollution and to stop the ashes from getting into the swimming pools and clogging the filters. Now, after a few years of uncontrolled undergrowth, the hills are all burning and darkening the sky with heavy smoke. The smell of burning cars and houses is terrible. The pool water was used to fill fire trucks with water after the houses burnt or was near burning.

Can we sue the ones who signed the petition to stop controlled burning that led to the destruction of our neighborhood? It seems like they are the ones liable for the destruction. Were a few ashes in the pool worth it?

I recently had a 1996 plymouth breeze my parents had bought me to get me and my 2 yr old son around and me back and forth to nursing school. The car ran fine while I had it, and didn't give me any hint of problems. Then one day, the engine suddenly caught on fire, thank god me and my son weren't in it. The fire burned throught the dash and engine, so the car is no good whatsoever.
I later found out that there was a recall on these cars for this very reason (complaints of engine fires) and I need to know how to contact Chrysler. We bought the car from a private seller, a older lady, I don't know if it makes any difference if it was bought from a dealer or not.I really need another car, I barely had this one 6 months!!!!!
I don;t know how much help I will get, but any is GREATLY appreciated, I don't even know where to start.

I own a 1982 Yamaha virago, and the carburetor keeps leaking gas very slowly. I have taken it apart a few times to try and see what was wrong, the floats in the reservoir on the bottom of the carb were stuck and i was able to tap them and they loosened up. The carb stopped leaking for a while but once i was able to start the bike up (was dealing with an electrical problem for a while *irrelevant*) its leaking again. It doesn't empty the gas tank when its on its kickstand, but when i sit on the bike and straiten it up/lean it towards the right side, where the carb is, a little pours out and then it slowly drips (1 drop every minute or so). Any advice on how i could fix it? And if it would be better for me to just get a new one (its old) where could i look to find something reliable and how much should i be prepared to spend?

Another thing, the starter is messed up, it works half the time, grinds the other half. Apparently everyone who has the original starter for this model and year of bike has this problem, i was gonna just buy a new starter, but i keep being told (by 2 bike repair shops and a dealer) that starters are bike specific, which im pretty sure isn't true because i work on cars too and starters for the most part are completely universal and interchangeable. I know bikes are every different from cars but im sure i could just get any starter...just looking for someone who could clear that up for me and give me a good place to look for a decent starter.

On a final note, ive been able to get my bike to start by using a car battery (not while the car is running of course), the starter turns (when it doesn't just spin wildly and grind) and the engine fires up with the help of starter fluid in the carb, it runs for a quick second or two and the engine stalls or just cuts out (not sure why its stopping yet). After the engine stops the lights and everything stay on. My best guess is that the car battery is able to give enough of a charge to spark the plugs initially to get the bike started, but once the engine starts running the alternator cant charge the battery (since its a full on car battery) enough to provide enough power to keep the plugs sparking, therefore the engine cuts off. Again, this is my best guess, i don't know for sure. Some other guesses or a thumbs up to that idea would be great, along with a few ideas to fix it if im wrong. I know i need to get a battery and im almost positive that's gonna fix the problem, just looking for confirmation on that whole deal. The battery i got when i bought the bike was completely dead, it couldn't even hold a .5 volt charge ( should be between ~10.5 and 12.6 for anyone who doesn't know that).

The buyer now owns part of a shopping center that is necessary for parking. Without these 62 parking spaces, numerous businesses will be forced to close, due to available parking occupancy violations. This new owner has set up a fence and disregards the fact that these businesses have been using this space for decades. Also, this fence makes it impossible for cars to turn around in the parking lot, not to mention the impossibility for a fire truck to even enter the parking lot.

then itll say check gages
so i do its overheating
a few minutes later it goes back to normal and itll keep doing it randomly
i turn on the heat, and its ice cold air when it says thats its overheating
i bought this truck last week for about 4 grand 77k miles and it seemed fine till now lol
and the service engine soon light is on i also checked the coolant and it was fine...idk what else to do i just build cars and shit i dont know how to troubleshoot em...the book doesnt help
it says to get out the car or itll start on fire. and to check the coolant...did both

I need to know this, it has been paining me for a few years, all these new LPG kits have come onto the market, and with fuel prices in Great Britian being so high, im astounded that we still need to use petrol in our cars that have been so called "converted" to run on Autogas.

Correct me if im wrong, but Im sure I wasnt smoking anything when I saw a forklift truck drive past, powered by propane. The engine in it was a carb type, and a standard 4 cyl Perkins. It ran perfectly, no need for petrol at all.

I am told that it has something to do with the vaporiser needing a supply of heated coolant to stop it from freezing, understandable... but it hasn't answered my question, surely gas fired forklift trucks would suffer the same problem?? why dont they need petrol? and why cant cars just simply run on LPG alone?

I think its also to do with out government, and they dont like people to stop buying ridiculously priced fuel to line their pockets with gold. If we turned to LPG without need for petrol, they would be worried. And soon you'll notice the price of LPG goes through the roof.

I know there are some engineers out there that can reveal the truth, please let us know. thanks.

i have been working on cars since i was no lie about 5 yrs old. i was a jet engine and fuel systems mechanic for 5 years in the us navy. should i attempt this fix my self or should i let a dealer or a shop do it. i have some tools but most was stolen last summer. i might have to go buy tools and have to jack up the engine off the frame just to be able to fit something near the drivers side near the fire wall. i thought i would get on here and ask some opinions. this will be my first on a jeep. but i have drilled and easyoutted a dozen or soo bolts.

Im new to cars and just bought a fixer upper truck it started up and drove around for a while. i tried to start it back up and it had fire and was trying to turn over but would not actually start. what could be wrong?

I'm a 17 year old student and I'm ready to buy my first car. I found a nice 2001 Jetta at a Repo site and it looks fairly good. It's a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg with 137,000 km on it. It's the 5 speed 1.8T and it's going for about 7,000. Ive been looking at cars for a while now and all these review that I've read have horrible reviews for Volkswagens in general. Repairs in the thousands for things like new engine and transmissions, windows stuck in the doors, fires, radiators blowing up etc. I don't want to spend more than around 7,000 and this car seems like a good deal but I don't have the money to fix these major things. Btw, I would take a mechanic to check it out before i buy it. Any suggestions?? Thanks a lot

... or another truck? I know both are babe magnets but I need something to drive. My old rust-bucket Chevy S10 finally died on the way home today. It had been smoking really bad these last few days and I noticed that a lot of smoke was drifting up through the holes in the floor today so I drove really fast trying to clear out all the fumes when all of a sudden my engine just blew apart! I managed to get it to a stop (in the middle of the highway at 5 pm) and the dang thing caught fire and burned to a cinder. Man, were those people that had to wait behind me ever mad! You never saw such a traffic jam. Anyway, I've thought about buying a bike this time because it would be a lot easier to push when it breaks down. Any suggestions? (I have a lot of bad luck with cars/trucks -- see my 360--)
Yeah, they stopped traffic in both directions for almost two hours while the fire dept. hosed down my truck. I'm sure some of the locals recognized my old P.O.S. truck and were hollering and cussing like madmen (and women). I know where there's and old dump truck for sale -- it would make a GREAT tailgate party truck in football season but I don't know if I could afford to drive it.
Does anybody have troubles like I do?
