Should fire trucks and ambulances be used to convey political messages like “support our troops” ribbons?

People on both sides of the war and troop support are forced to pay taxes to their county and/or state. This money is used to support the operations of police and fire departments. So i don't see why those on the anti-war/troop side have to see fire engines and ambulances display those yellow "support our troops" magnetic ribbons ?

I had a feeling you didn’t support our troops, Barry.

  2. Obama W. Bush Says:

Do you mean those yellow plastic ribbons that are made in China.

As a Retired USMC Vet I find them laughable.

Maybe because we have free speech rights in this country?

Also maybe becasue many EMS service providers are actually privately owned companies that contract their services to the city? So they can do whatever the hell they want with their vehicles.

And lastly, because anti-war/troop fools are not the only people that pay taxes?

I think it’s the Firefighters themselves who put those ribbons on the trucks, to show support for those brave men and women who are fighting to defend this great nation and those freedom’s that those who oppose the war have to protest it.

I thought that the lefties, that while they were against the war they supported our troops. And why is supporting the young men and women in the military a political issue?

Have you even crawled into a burning house? Ever cut a car apart to save a life? Have you ever cried because you couldnt save a child?
Well i have. As a Firefighter and EMT I am proud to support our troops, they are there for a cause and we are here for a cause.

  8. bhaail Says:

FIRST OFF "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" ribbons are neutral in the war! they just say Support our troops. YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THEM EVEN IF YOU ARE AGAINST IT! YOU CAN SUPPORT THEM AND STILL BE AGAINST THE WAR!

    …for crying out loud.

  9. Ibredd Says:

    get a life

  10. LoftyDog Says:

I hardly see supporting our troops as a political message. You don’t have to support the war to support the troops, they are not one and the same. And how do you know that tax dollars were used for the ribbons… they are probably paid for by the firemen and EMTs.

  11. kyleg001 Says:

There is a BIG difference between supporting the war and supporting the troops.

If the drivers want to put yellow ribbons on the vehicles, let them, its there right.

Would you have a problem if they put "My kid is in Honor classes" on these vehicles.

    Think about it.

  12. Right-wing nutjob Says:

It’s not a political message. Do those ribbons say "I/we support the war in Iraq"? No, they simply state they support the men and women that put their lives on the line daily, much like they do. Something no anti-war/troop idiot will ever know anything about. They’ll just use the rights provided to them by those same men and women that they love to slander.

  13. Jimmbbo Says:

Hmm… the troops are serving at OUR orders… WE sent them into harm’s way, and are getting ready to send more into combat.

Since when is it wrong to support folks WE sent into battle? Maybe you’d prefer living in China or Cuba where only the approved government message is allowed? If so, please leave. Sooner is better.

I would call you a lowlife creep but that offends lowlife creeps.
