I dyed my hair and only my roots turned out the color I wanted?
Okay, so I have dyed black hair and it is faded, so it's like a dark brown, but my roots are light. I have had my hair red before, like fire truck red ahaha, and I wanted to dye it orange. So a few days ago i went to sally's beauty and bought thee exact same brand of hair dye i used when i dyed my hair red, it is loreal i think and its for dark hair only so there is no bleaching involved. So i buy this loreal dye, the color is cooper. I put the dye on my hair and it only dyes my roots the orange color! I want my hair this color all over but i dont know if i should try to dye my hair a blonde ( because i dont want to bleach it) or what. so can anyone help ? thanks (:
My hair isn't damaged. I'm asking how I should lighten my hair so the color will show up, because my hair is obviously too dark.

unfortunately, the only thing that can lighten hair that has been previously colored is bleach. color cannot lift through color. using a blonde dye won’t work either, it isn’t strong enough to break through the color that is on your ends.
fortunately, you want to be orange. when you bleach the colored part of your hair it will naturally lighten to a gold/copper color, then you should just have to deposit the copper color over that to even everything out.

you need to go to a proffesional becuas eyou color your hair often you hair is diffeent colors , plus drug store brands are not good. also think about how you apply hair stuff frist on your roots then to your tips there for the color is on your roots for a longer period of time …. go to a salon

based on the situation, i would Guess tat your hair took harshly to the color before the black, and that might have made it more frail. when its possibly too frail then the old and previously dyed hair might not take to the color very easily. what you need to do it even out your hair until its one color. then you need to go back to Sally’s and get special shampoo and conditioner for colored hair for about 3-7 weeks. then your hair should be back to complete health and you should redying it, then it should work.
