Are there any grants available for restoring an old 1954 model Mack firetruck?

The firetruck was one of the first in our city and has been given to the museum located here. The fire truck in in need of new tires and a fresh paintjob. The museum has let the firetruck stay out in the weather and the paint has faded. There may be some other maintenance issues to address once we get into the problems. The firetruck has a 50 ft. ladder on top,a squirreltail hard suction hose that wraps around the front of the unit.the firetruck is a gas burner. It has a 300 gallon water tank on it with a 750 gpm pump. It has an open cab on it. We are considering taking the unit and putting it in it's own building. The firetruck has a lot of local history behind it. I started at the Fire Dept. about 30 years ago and we used it as a back-up pumper. Our local museum is strapped for monies and we would appreciate any assistance in this matter. Thank you.

There are gov grants available for cities to build, stock and improve museums. Either your city or your county has a person who’s job is to write and apply for grants. ( commonly called a grant writer) Contact this person and explain your needs. The best place to start is at county commisioners court, usually held on Monday morning at the courthouse.

Your county or state should have a Historical Society that you can contact. You can write your congressman and state senator. Have fund raisers in your community. Call your local tv station and get the word out, ask for donations, etc. As local garages and bodyshops to donate some work. You can accomplish a lot, probably get the building built and the truck fixed before the red tape process of getting a grant can be waded through
